Your case is in India. You are not.

You built a life abroad, but your marriage, your family or your property is tied to India. Maybe you married in Delhi and moved to Toronto, and now the marriage is ending. Maybe you want to marry in India during a short holiday and do not know how long the process takes. Maybe a case has been filed against you in Delhi and you cannot take months off work to attend court.

These are exactly the situations we handle. Our advocates practise at the Dwarka Court Complex and other Delhi courts, and a large part of our work is for Indians who live or work in other countries and need an advocate on the ground in India. You tell us your situation, we explain which Indian law applies and what it means for you, and we do the work in court so that you do not have to be in Delhi for every hearing.

We cover the Indian side of your case. If proceedings are also running abroad, we coordinate with your local attorney so that both sides of the case fit together and nothing you sign in one country harms you in the other.

Why Indians abroad choose a Delhi advocate

Choosing the right lawyer matters more when you are far away, because you cannot walk into the chamber to check on your file. Here is how we make distance easy.

  • One point of contact. You know who is handling your matter, and you get an update after every court date.
  • Remote by design. Consultation, document review, drafting and signing instructions all work over video call, email and WhatsApp.
  • Power of attorney and video appearance. Where the court permits, many steps can be done without a trip to India.
  • Attestation guidance. We tell you exactly how to notarise, apostille or attest papers where you live, so they are accepted in India.
  • Respect for your time. We plan calls around your working day and your time zone.

Where we help: country by country

We are based in Delhi, and our clients write to us from every major NRI community.

USA

Many Indians in the USA marry, separate or file for divorce across two legal systems. A US decree is not automatically accepted in India, so we advise on the Indian side before you file or sign anything, and we work alongside your local US attorney.

Canada

For Indian families in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and elsewhere: divorce, custody and settlement terms that also hold up in India, with video consultations that fit Canadian time zones.

United Kingdom

Indian-origin couples in the UK often need a marriage registered, a divorce recognised or a custody dispute handled in India as well. We prepare the Indian petition and the attested papers.

UAE and Gulf

Indians working in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Kuwait or Oman can start a matter from the Gulf by video call, with documents signed before the Indian embassy or a notary and attested as needed.

Australia and New Zealand

The time difference is long, so we plan calls in your evening or morning. We handle the Indian court work, service of notice and settlement drafting.

Singapore and Europe

From Singapore, Germany, France or Switzerland: marriage registration in India, mutual consent divorce and family disputes with one point of contact in Delhi.

Living in another country not listed here? The advice is the same. See our NRI divorce lawyer page or tell us your country and we will plan around your time zone.

How we work with you, step by step

A simple process, built so that you are never left wondering what happens next.

  1. Free first call

Tell us your situation on a call or WhatsApp. We listen first and explain your options in plain words.

  2. Review of papers

Send scans of your documents. We confirm which Indian law applies and list what is missing.

  3. Drafting and filing

We draft the petition or reply, send it to you for approval and file it in the right court.

  4. Hearings and updates

We appear for you and report after each date. You join by video or power of attorney where allowed.

Common questions from NRIs

Can I file for divorce in India if I live abroad?

Often yes. An Indian family court can hear your case if, for example, you married in India, last lived together in India or your spouse lives in India. Which court is right affects cost, time and recognition, so please read our NRI divorce lawyer page and speak to us before filing anywhere.

Do I have to travel to India for every hearing?

Not always. Many steps can be done through a power of attorney, and courts have allowed appearance by video conference in suitable cases. Some stages may need your presence, and we tell you early so you can plan.

Is a divorce from a foreign court valid in India?

Not automatically. Indian courts look at whether the foreign court had proper jurisdiction and whether the case was decided on the merits. We explain this before you rely on a foreign decree.

Can I get married in India while I am on a short visit?

Yes, under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, but it needs a 30-day notice period and one party must have lived in the district for 30 days. Read our court marriage page for the steps.

How do I send documents signed abroad?

We give you a checklist for notarisation, apostille or embassy attestation, depending on the country. Scans can be shared first for checking, and originals are couriered when needed.

Where is your chamber?

Chamber No. 551-B, Lawyers' Chamber Block, Dwarka Court Complex, Sector 10, Dwarka, New Delhi - 110075. You can also reach us on call or WhatsApp from anywhere in the world.
